A Recent Study Shows an Increased Risk of Stoke and Heart Disease from Diet Soda Consumption

We all know that we should cut back on processed foods and sugars, but do you remember the last time you tried to? The constant craving in the back of your head that controls your shopping trips, leading to binge eating putting you right back to square one. Breaking food addictions can be difficult as not much research has been done to find the root of these problems, and the first step for many when it comes to switching away from sugars is reaching for a diet soda but that is likely to cause more severe, long-term damage than previously thought. In an article from the American Medical Association, Dr. Mossavar-Rahmani discussed their recent research that did an extensive look at women and their consumption of artificially sweetened beverages. At the end of the study there was a 23% increased risk of strokes in women who consumed the “diet” beverages, and a 29% increased risk of heart disease.
